Meet the Doctor

Dr. Michael Richard has been practicing general dentistry, including esthetic and restorative dentistry in Garden City, Kansas since his graduation from dental school in 1985. He graduated with honors from Manhattan High School in 1978. For three years he studied at Kansas State University in Manhattan and graduated with honors in 1982 with a bachelor of science degree in pre-dentistry. In 1985, he graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry.

Immediately upon graduation, Dr. Richard moved from Kansas City to Garden City to begin his dental career as an associate dentist for a four-doctor group practice that was on the cutting edge of implant and restorative dentistry. This associateship was a springboard to many personal and professional activities that are core to his life today. In the first year, he helped the group purchase a satellite practice in Cimarron and he spent two years treating patients in that community two days a week. In 1987, he purchased the practice of Dr. Robert Hart and assumed a busier role in the management of both his personal practice and the group practice. Dr. Richard feels that fellowship in a group was one of the best learning environments he could have ever experienced.

Dr. Richard was a member of the Leadership Garden City class of 1991, and a member of the Leadership Kansas class of 1996. He has been a member of the Academy of General Dentistry since dental school and in 1994 he achieved his Fellowship (FAGD) in the Academy of General Dentistry. Fellowship is awarded after completing 500 hours of continuing education in all facets of general dentistry, and successfully passing a 4-hour written examination. Fellowship is held by fewer than 15% of dentist in the world. He later achieved his mastership (MAGD) in 2004. Mastership is awarded after completing extensive participation coursework in all facets of general dentistry and is awarded to less than 5% of all dentists worldwide. In 2004, Dr. Richard was awarded his fellowship (FICOI) in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

Dr. Richard and his wife Denise enjoy time with their family. They also enjoy many activities including golf, snow skiing, motorcycling and traveling.
